SIX TERMINATOR QUOTES THAT ARE SO NOSTALGIC, THEY’LL SEND YOU BACK IN TIME
He said he’d be back!!
This Halloween, Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as The Terminator in Terminator: Dark Fate alongside Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong and joined by newcomers Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes and Gabriel Luna. Dark Fate serves as a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day, so don’t worry if you haven’t seen any of the sequels or shows since.
Before you gear up and head to VOX Cinemas to see the latest installment in the franchise, let’s take a look at some of the most memorable quotes from the first two films.
6. "HASTA LA VISTA, BABY"
In attempt to get the T-800 to act more natural and human-like, John Connor tries to teach him slang that he can use like “no problemo” or “chill out” but the line that impacted us the most was definitely his use of “Hasta la vista, baby” right before he shot the T-1000 into a million pieces.
6. “COME WITH ME IF YOU WANT TO LIVE”
First used in The Terminator by Kyle Reese, this iconic line has become a staple of the Terminator franchise and has been used in nearly every Terminator film since. The quote has also been parodied countless times in film and television including The Lego Movie.
5. “I KNOW NOW WHY YOU CRY”
Even the manliest of men teared up when they first had to say goodbye to the Terminator in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. After defeating the T-1000 and ensuring John and Sarah Connor’s safety, the T-800 has one mission left: destroying himself to ensure Skynet never takes over. Before melting himself, the Terminator tells John one final message: “I know now why you cry, but it’s something I can never do.”
John looks on in tears as the Terminator slowly descends into molten lava. In one final gut-wrenching move, he gives John a thumbs up just as his system shuts down.
4. “I NEED YOUR CLOTHES, YOUR BOOTS AND YOUR MOTORCYCLE"
If Arnold Schwarzenegger ever comes up to you and demands your clothes, boots and motorcycle, do yourself a favour and give it to him. A biker had to learn that the hard way when he chose to put out his cigar on the T-800’s chest instead. To say he learned his lesson would be an understatement.
As Arnie walks out the bar to the tune of Bad to the Bone we all knew he had just cemented himself as one of the most badass characters of all-time.
2. “IF A MACHINE, A TERMINATOR, CAN LEARN THE VALUE OF HUMAN LIFE, MAYBE WE CAN TOO"
At the end of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Sarah Connor utters what might be one of the greatest closing lines of all-time. As she and John drive down a highway at the end of the film, Sarah says in a voiceover: “The unknown future rolls toward us. I face it for the first time with a sense of hope. Because if a machine, a Terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too.”
1. “I’LL BE BACK”
We had to save the best for last. Easily one of the most iconic quotes of all time, this line from The Terminator is said by the Terminator as he leaves a police station only to return in full force as he drives his car through the station.
👉 Fun fact: Arnold Schwarzenegger originally didn’t want to say “I’ll be back”, he wanted to say “I will be back” instead. He reasoned that a Terminator wouldn’t abbreviate but was refused when suggesting the idea to James Cameron, who believed that keeping the line abbreviated would be more impactful. It’s safe to say they made the right call.
